Ce matin, il fait encore plus chaud qu’hier; le vent est tombé durant la nuit. On avait déjà discuté d’aller visiter Washington, la journée semble idéale pour aller envoyer la main à Michelle et Barack. Ça fait vraiment étrange de prendre l’autoroute après près d’un mois en bateau, on s’habitue à prendre notre temps.

Le choix de la journée, un dimanche, est idéal. Les stationnements sont tous fermés, mais on a le droit de se stationner dans les rues partout. On se trouve facilement un stationnement à moins de 5 minutes de marche de la Maison Blanche.

Tout est à distance de marche, la Maison blanche, le menhir (Washington Monument), Abraham Lincoln dans sa chaise, le capitole, etc. Par contre, il nous aurait fallu une semaine pour avoir le temps d’apprécier la ville à sa juste valeur, il y a tellement à voir. Ce sera pour une prochaine fois.

En soirée, on passe à l’épicerie se ramasser quelque chose pour le souper. Je suis encore surpris de la différence de prix avec le Canada, tout est tellement plus abordable. On se prend du poulet (poitrines de poulet désossées 1,99$/lb, prix régulier!!!) ce qui nous donne un prétexte pour essayer notre nouveau BBQ.

This morning, it’s even hotter than yesterday outside; the wind died down during the night. We had already planned visiting Washington, the day seems ideal to go wave at Michelle and Barack. It really feels strange to go on the highway after more than a month on a boat, we really get used to taking our time.

The choice of the day, a Saturday, is ideal. The parking are all closed, but we have the right to park almost everywhere on the streets. We easily find a parking less than 5 minutes away by foot from the White House.

Everything is within walking distance, the White House, the Washington Monument, Abraham Lincoln in his chair, the capitol, etc. But, we would have needed at least a week to really appreciate all the city has to offer, there is so much to see. It will be for another time.

In the evening, we do a little stop at the grocery store to pick something for diner. I’m still amazed by the price differences with Canada, everything is so cheap here. We grab some chicken (boneless chicken breast $1.99/pound, regular price!!!), which gives us a reason to try our new BBQ.
