21 septembre 2010, le mât trône fièrement

La journée d’aujourd’hui a été extrêmement chargée, nous sommes brulés tous les deux, mais nous sommes très contents du travail accompli. Nous nous sommes levés vers 6h30 pour débuter l’opération de mâtage. À 7h30 on commençait à rhabiller le mât, à 10h il trônait fièrement où il se doit. Un gros merci aux deux Québécois, dont les noms m’échappent, sans qui nous serions encore en train de travailler là-dessus. Nous avons passé le reste de la journée à tout remettre en place. Nous avons décidé d’arrêter vers 17h00 , à bout de force. Il ne reste plus qu’à remettre le foc sur l’enrouleur demain matin.

En soirée, nous avons essayé de nous ancrer au sud des mouillages tel que recommandé par le propriétaire de la marina. Pas de chance, on se reprend par 2 fois pour arriver à la conclusion que le fond ne tient pas assez et que nous sommes trop exposés au vent. On retourne donc s’ancrer au nord des mouillages comme nous l’avions fait la veille. Ici le fond tient bien et nous sommes mieux protégés du vent. Une bonne nuit de sommeil nous attend avec plein de nouveaux bruits qui feront maintenant partie de notre quotidien.

Today was a very busy day, we are both exhausted, but very proud of the work accomplished. We got up at 6:30 am to start the re-stepping process. By 7:30 am we were dressing the mast, by 10 am the mast was proudly standing where it belongs. A big thank you to the two gentleman from Quebec, whose names escape me at this time; without them the process would have taken a lot more time and would have been a lot harder. We spent the rest of the day putting everything back in place. We decided it was time to stop working at around 5 pm, as we were starting to lack energy. The only thing that still needs to be done is to install the jib on the roller furling tomorrow morning.

In the evening, we tried to anchor south of the moorings, as suggest by the owner of the marina. No luck, we tried two times and both time we drifted. We concluded that the bottom didn’t offer enough holding power and that the site didn’t offer enough protection against the wind. We went back to the north of the moorings, where anchored the night before. The ground holds better here and it offers more protection against the wind. A good night of sleep awaits us with a wide array of new sounds to get used to.
