Ce matin, il fait 8°C et on est dans entouré dans un brouillard à couper au couteau. Nous décidons de tout de même avancer. On se dirige à l’aide du radar, du compas et du GPS, ce qui somme toute, se fait relativement aisément. Vers 10h, le soleil finit par percer la brume, ce qui facilite grandement la navigation.
Plus on descend dans le lac Champlain, plus ça devient étroit. Vers 13h30, nous arrivons à l’écluse #12, Whitehall. La ville de Whitehall est pratiquement une ville fantôme. Elle n’est plus que le reflet de ce qu’elle a été auparavant. Dans le but d’attirer les touristes, la ville offre le quai avec l’eau, l’électricité et les douches gratuitement. C’est donc notre arrêt pour la nuit.
On en profite pour ouvrir notre hors-bord afin de voir pour quelle raison il ne veut pas partir. On trouve rapidement que c’est un ajustement au niveau du lanceur qui est en cause. Fiouf, 20 minutes et c’est réglé.
Plus tard, on aide un gros bateau moteur à accoster. Ses propriétaires, John & Linda, nous invitent à monter à bord pour une bière. On finit donc la journée avec un petit brin de causette (3-4 heures).

This morning, it’s only 8°C outside and we are surrounded by a thick fog. We decide to still head out. We find our way using the radar, compass and GPS, which is easier than we expected after all. At around 10 am, the sun finally shines through the fog, which makes navigation a lot easier.
The further south we go into lake Champlain, the narrower it gets. At around 1:30 pm, we arrive at locks #12; Whitehall. The city of Whitehall has almost become a ghost town. It’s only a faint reminder of what it once used to be. With the intention to attract tourists, the city offers free docking, water, electricity and showers included. That is enough to convince us to stay there for the night.
We take the opportunity to open our outboard motor to see why it won’t launch. We quickly figure out that it’s caused by a loose adjustment in the starting system. Yeah, 20 minutes and it’s done.
A little later, we help a big power boat to dock. It’s owners, John & Linda, invite us to come aboard for a few beers. So we end the day chatting with them (for like 3-4 hours).
